Joseph Eckert was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Monday at an apartment on Arizona Circle. He being held in the Carson City Jail on $25,000 bail.
According to the arrest report, a deputy met with the man's father who said that his son stole tools from him. The father was asked how he knew this and the father said his son admitted to stealing his tools.
The father said that his son had been a very bad heroin addict and has been stealing from him and his mother for quite some time. The father stated he does not know what else to do other than pursue charges on the most recent theft of his tools.
The father described the tools, one being a drill and the other being an impact wrence. The father advised the tools were Snap-On brand and valued both at $1,030. The father also learned that his son had his friends pawn the tools for him at a local pawn shop. The father completed a written statement.
Deputy Gibson then responded to an Arizona Circle address and contacted Eckert who was in bed in his bedroom. Gibson asked the man if he knew why he was there, and Eckert responded by saying probably because he had been stealing from his parents, according to the arrest report.
He was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak. Eckert told the deputy that he has a bad heroin addiction so he has been stealing property from his parents to support his habit.
He indicated the most recent items he stole were from his father and were two drill type tools, according to the arrest report. He advised that he lost his identification card so he asked two friends of his to pawn the tools. Eckert told the officer the tools were pawned at a pawn shop under two different names.
He was taken into custody and provided a written statement describing his actions.
