Carson City deputies arrest pair suspected of trafficking meth; possession of heroin, mushrooms

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a San Jose, Calif. couple Thursday night suspected of trafficking methamphetamine and being in possession of heroin and hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Arrested were Tricia Diane Lopez, 26, a pre-school teacher and Albert Eugene Carlson, 35. Each face felony trafficking charges as well as two felony counts of possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell.

According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop at 11:14 p.m. Dec. 26 after observing the driver had failed to turn on his headlights after exiting Highway 50 and Saliman. The vehicle proceeded eastbound on Highway 50, pulling into 1400 Rand.

The arresting officer made contact with the driver, Carlson, and front passenger, Lopez, and asked for insurance and a driver's license. Carlson stated his license was suspended and he wasn't insured. Lopez stated the vehicle belonged to her and she didn't have insurance. Dispatch advised the registration had been expired since 2011.

Dispatch confirmed Carlson had a suspended driver's license out of California. The officer advised the man to exit the vehicle. Deputy Riggin and a canine completed an exterior search of the vehicle, where the dog alerted officers to a drug positive on the vehicle's engine compartment, the arrest report states.

The hood was opened and officers noticed a black zip up container holding a white rock of methamphetamine, which was weighed at 12.5 grams, several sandwich baggies of mushrooms, a small baggie of heroin, several small empty baggies, 2 glass pipes and a digital scale. Inside the glove box was a baggie with marijuana, the arrest report states.

Both were placed into custody and taken to jail. Each face felony charges of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts possession of a controlled substance, heroin and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Both also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, and two counts possession of drug paraphernalia. Her total bail amount is $32,996

Carlson also faces additional misdemeanor charges of driving with an expired license plate and driver's license and having no proof of insurance. His total bail amount is $33,151.
