Two men were arrested on felony charges Saturday after each gave officers false identification to avoid being arrested, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested were Edward Saavedra, 44, of Carson City and Tyler Stump-Jeffers, 22, of Gardnerville. According to the booking report, a deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was patrolling the area of Silver Sage and Colorado streets when he observed a pickup failing to maintain a lane of traffic, driving along the bike lane for two blocks.
The deputy made a traffic stop and asked the driver, Saavedra, for identification. He provided a name with a date of birth and stated he did not know his Social Security number. He was unable to provide proof of insurance for the pickup.
When Saavedra was asked to step out of the vehicle an officer located a driver’s license with the man’s real name and information. He was read his Miranda rights in which he agreed to speak and told the officer he used his brother’s name because he knew he had a warrant for his arrest. Dispatch also advised Saavedra did not have a valid license, that he was an ex-felon and was not currently registered as an ex-felon with the sheriff’s office, the arrest report states.
The passenger in the vehicle, Jeffers-Stump, was contacted by a second deputy where it was learned he gave a false name. A records check was made after a deputy determined he had arrested the man before. He had an active warrant for his arrest for contempt of court. He gave permission to search his person and told the deputy there was a capped hypodermic needle in his pocket, the booking report states.
Saavedra was arrested at 8:59 p.m. on the following charges: False identification to avoid prosecution, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of being an ex-felon failing to register, a failure to appear warrant, a contempt of court warrant, driving without a valid license and no proof of insurance. Bail: $7,081.
Stump-Jeffers was arrested at 8:58 p.m. on a felony suspicion of providing false identification to avoid prosecution, a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant and obstructing an officer. Bail: $8,412.
