Five people were arrested Friday on various felony charges after a vehicle was reported stolen from a Nevada Street residence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Four of the five were arrested at 5:58 a.m. during a high risk traffic stop involving a black Camaro at the intersection of Harbin and Musser streets in Carson City.
One suspect, Ashley Gormley, 24, was taken into custody earlier after returning the stolen vehicle to its owner, the deputy said. Two of the suspects, Samuel Pollock-Smith, 21, of Reno and Gormley were booked on charges associated with the stolen vehicle. The victim told police that she knew the pair but didn’t agree they could take the vehicle. The two had returned the vehicle after 911 dispatch was called. However, they took off running prior to police arriving.
Gormley was found by deputies on foot and admitted under Miranda that she had taken the car, but had done so with permission and didn’t have a time limit to return it. Subsequent text and phone messages discovered during the investigation showed otherwise, according to the arrest report.
Pollock-Smith was discovered later in another vehicle with three others during the high risk traffic stop at Harbin and Musser streets, according to the arrest report. He was booked on suspicion of possession of stolen property, and a grand larceny warrant issued in Washoe County, both are felony charges. He also had a misdemeanor warrant for theft issued in Douglas County, according to the arrest report. His bail was set at $38,500.
Gormley, who is listed as a transient, was arrested on suspicion of receiving or transporting a stolen vehicle. Her bail was set at $10,000.
Three others in the vehicle, William Merrill, 41, Susanne Lambert, 31, both of Reno, and Jeremy Chaplin, 24, listed as a transient, were arrested on felony drug charges after methamphetamine and paraphernalia were recovered. Lambert was also in possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, a gross misdemeanor, her bail was listed at $2,500 as was Merrill’s bail.
During the intake search at the Carson City jail, Chaplin was found to have a ziplock baggie of methamphetamine folded in his underpants. In his backpack, officers found a scale with white powder on it and several empty baggies that were packaged together. Chaplin was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and violation of probation. His bail was set at $5,000 but has a "no bail" hold placed on him due to the probation violation.
