Carson City woman jailed on felony grand larceny, stolen property charges

A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday in the 500 block of Jeanell Drive on suspicion of felony grand larceny and possession of stolen property after allegedly stealing flooring, tools and a swamp cooler, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Helen Holguin is being held on $50,000 bail. According to the arrest report, a male victim met with deputies Sept. 26 and stated he had recently purchased vinyl flooring and glue to work on his home. He stated he believed Holguin had taken the items. He told officers he called Home Depot and discovered a woman matching Holguin’s description had attempted to return the vinyl flooring.

Officers went to the 500 block of Jeanell Drive, an address listed under the woman’s name and discovered the roll of flooring in front of the residence. Officers spoke with the owner of the residence who said the flooring had been dropped off by Holguin.

The victim came to the scene to retrieve the flooring. While on scene, the victim discovered a tool bag with tools that belonged to him and a swamp cooler. The officer learned the items were also brought to the home by Holguin, the arrest report states. The total value of items belonging to the victim amounted to $1,098.31, according to the report.

At 4:18 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to the Jeanell Drive address again to serve a temporary restraining order to Holguin. The woman exited the residence. She was read her Miranda rights. She admitted to having stolen property in her possession and that she attempted to return it, although she stated she did not know it was stolen, the arrest report states. The woman was taken into custody without incident.

In other arrests:
— A 27-year-old Carson City man, Thomas Dale Cook, was arrested Wednesday, 10:06 p.m. in the 2900 block of Concord Drive on felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence.
Officers responded to the area in reference to a welfare check on juveniles at a residence. Upon arrival officer made contact with Cook. A check through dispatch stated he had a warrant, violation of a suspended sentence, issued Aug. 7, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court.
He was arrested. While being searched, officers found a clear plastic cigarette wrapper with a brown, wet tar substance believed to be heroin and faces a felony charge of possession of suspected heroin. Bail: $5,200.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 2:59 a.m. in the 2700 block of Panamint Road on a misdemeanor charge of misuse of calling 911.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area at 2:42 a.m. in reference to a possible domestic dispute. Officers made contact with the man, who was intoxicated.

Officers observed the man had thick slurred speech. He had called 911 earlier in the night to say his wife stabbed him. It was determined from the call that no stabbing had happened, the arrest report states. The man then told deputies that he wrecked his bike.

After the first call the man took a cab away from the residence and was told by deputies not to return. At approximately 2:42 a.m. the man came back to the residence and called 911 again. This time the officer told the man he was abusing 911 and that it was a crime. The man stated he was mad at his wife, the arrest report states. The officer advised the man to go back to his friend’s house for the night.

The man left and started cursing in the street on Panamint and Montez Drive. He called 911 again at approximately 2:57 a.m. to say he needed emergency help. He was taken into custody without incident. Bail: $2,500.

— A 26-year-old Brentwood, Calif., man was booked Wednesday into Carson City Jail on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence, issued May 14, 2012 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 8:35 a.m. in the 3300 block of Gordonia Street on a misdemeanor warrant for contempt of court. The warrant was issued Sept. 26, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 9:49 p.m. in the area of Carson and Long streets on misdemeanor charges of being an ex-felon failing to register and a traffic violation for not using a turn signal. Bail: $314.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
