Carson City authorities arrested an unemployed man who admitted to stealing his sister's wedding ring, pawning it at a shop and then used some of the money to buy cigarettes.
Gregory Lee Snelson, 30, of Carson City, faces a felony grand larceny charge. He is being held on $25,000 bail.
According to the arrest report, officers met the sister of Snelson at the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The woman told authorities that her wedding ring was missing from her room on Monday and said she and her husband searched the home but couldn't find it.
The woman also told authorities her brother was "acting strange" on Sunday and had new packs of cigarettes and money, according to the arrest report. The woman told authorities she found it odd he was smoking and had money in his pocket since he doesn't have a job and "never has money" according to the arrest report.
The woman said she questioned her brother about where he got the smokes and cash. He told her that someone gave them to him, according to the arrest report.
The woman told authorities she suspected her brother took the ring, valued at $1,600, and pawned it. Officers went to the apartment in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road where the victim, her husband and Snelson live.
The woman allowed officers into the apartment and Snelson was detained, placed into cuffs and was advised of a criminal investigation.
Snelson didn't deny he took the ring when the officer said he was being detained. Once the handcuffs were on, the officer escorted him to a patrol car. However, he began to twist and turn and initially refused to spread his feet apart as instructed, according to the report.
The man then attempted to pull away from the officer and threw himself into a wall near the front door of the apartment. The officer pulled the man's left arm and instructed him to walk to the patrol car, in which he complied, according to the report.
Once inside the car, however, Snelson began to kick his feet on the inside door. The officer spoke with the victim and told her he didn't have much to go on, according to the report.
The officer then went back to the patrol car where Snelson said he wanted to talk. He was advised of his Miranda rights. He then said he took his sister's ring, pawned it for $125 and had only $2 left of the money. He told the officer that his wife in Louisiana told him to take the ring and he did, according to the arrest report.
The ring was recovered from the pawn shop.
