A Carson City man faces two felony grand larceny charges after admitting to detectives that he stole a purse from a casino and $30,000 in cash and jewelry from his parents.
Brian Christopher Ohl, 30, is being held on $25,000 bail.
Officers made the Sept. 7 arrest after a stolen purse report was made at a casino in the 1900 block of North Carson. Video surveillance footage identified Ohl as the man who took the purse, according to the arrest report.
Ohl was already a suspect in a grand larceny investigation where he allegedly stole $30,000 in cash and jewelry from his parents and then had several friends sell the property at local pawn shops, according to the report.
Authorities found Ohl at his apartment in the 300 block of Burton Street. According to the report, the man immediately stated he knew why the officer was there and then admitted to stealing the purse. The officer cuffed Ohl and and advised him of his Miranda rights.
Ohl agreed and told the officer that he had placed the stolen purse in a garbage can outside the apartment complex. A black purse was recovered. Ohl told the officer that he had taken $40 out of the purse and left the rest. He was taken to the Carson City Sheriff's Office and met with detectives for an interview, according to the report.
Ohl then admitted to investigators that he took the purse from the casino and, when asked about stealing the money and jewelry from his parents, admitted to that, too.
He told detectives that he gave the jewelry and other items to friends so they could pawn the items and sell them because he knew the pawn shops wouldn't accept the items because of his past problems. He stated his friends didn't know the property was stolen, according to the report.
