Arizona man faces multiple charges in terrorist threats against Nevada officials

CARSON CITY — An Arizona man is due in court April 7 and faces multiple felony charges after allegedly making terrorist threats to citizens and public officials in Nevada, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety – Investigation Division obtained an arrest warrant on March 9 for Douglas Hoffman, 63.

The warrant charged Hoffman with making or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, lethal agents or toxins, all felonies.  Bail was set at $100,000 and extradition was authorized for the 48 contiguous states.

Hoffman’s alleged crimes included death threats to public officials and Nevada citizens. The Department of Public Safety- Investigation Division detectives contacted the Goodyear Police Department in Arizona requesting Hoffman’s arrest and extradition back to Nevada.

On March 19, 2010 the Goodyear Police Department arrested Douglas Hoffman on the Nevada warrant without incident.

Hoffman was released on bail Friday, March 26. Hoffman is to appear at the Superior Court in Arizona on Wednesday, April 7.

An arrest warrant provided by the public safety department said Hoffman’s fingerprints were on two letters sent to Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, and threatened militia action if immediate changes weren’t made to a neighborhood outside Las Vegas where he was convicted in 2007 of destroying 546 trees in a retirement community, according to the Associated Press. He has been accused of making related death threats to Nevada’s governor and others.
