Carson City authorities make felony warrant, stolen check arrests

A Dayton man was arrested on a failure to appear bench warrant out of Carson City First Judicial Court and faces a felony warrant charge of possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance with intent to sell.

James Montell Dean, 24, was arrested Tuesday in the 1800 block of Highway 50 East after being stopped by a Carson City Sheriff's officer. According to the arrest report, Dean stated he knew he had warrants for his arrest when he was stopped.

The bench warrant was filed March 25 and states that Dean failed to report and provide a drug test.

In other arrests:

Abel Lopez Avila, 42, of Dayton was arrested Tuesday and faces felony charges of possession of stolen property and forgery.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to Video Centro in the 2700 block of Highway 50 east on Tuesday at 4:09 p.m. regarding an person uttering a forged instrument. Officers met with Avila who was arguing with another man. The arresting officer determined that Avila was responsible for attempting to cash a check stolen from Small Car Motors.

A few days prior, Small Car Motors reported that a check in the amount of more than $2,000 had been stolen from their business. At the time of the arrest the check appeared in the possession of Avila who attempted to cash it at Video Centro, according to the arrest report. Video Centro contacted Small Car Motors about the check and authorities were contacted. Bail was set at $25,000.

— All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
