— A man listed as a transient, Jay Christopher Veit, was arrested Tuesday for felony suspicion of domestic battery causing substantial bodily harm after allegedly attacking his wife with a machete, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, at approximately 4:34 p.m., Carson City dispatch received an open 911 call from a female who was heard screaming for help. The GPS was located off of Deer Run Road.
At 5:04 p.m. Veit and the victim arrived at Carson Tahoe Hospital. The woman had a severe laceration to her hand and a cut on her head. The laceration on her hand required surgery and the cut on her head required stitches. The hospital nurse was advised the victim received the injuries from a fall during a hike, the arrest report states.
While the woman was alone with the nurse she said she and the suspect had a domestic dispute and that the man cut her with a machete. Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified.
Veit was interviewed and read his Miranda warning where he waived in writing. He admitted to arguing with the victim in their RV parked on Deer Run Road. He said he pushed her and hit her on her face with his hand, according to the arrest report.
He stated he grabbed a machete and unsheathed it and intimidated the victim with it. He said her head was cut but he did not know how that happened and that her hand was cut by the machete when he was wrestling with her, the report states.
Veit also had two outstanding warrants, misdemeanor failure to appear for domestic battery issued in Pahrump Township Court, November 2013 and a failure to appear in traffic court warrant issued out of Walker River Township, February 2012. Bail: $18,388.
