A Carson City woman was arrested and faces felony burglary charges after allegedly stealing jewelry from her mother.
Jaqueline Cunningham, 22, was arrested in the 2800 block of Highway 50 on Oct. 1. According to the arrest report, officers responded to a larceny call in which a woman reported her jewelry missing.
Authorities contacted a local pawn shop and it was determined that Cunningham had pawned $1,232 worth of jewelry. The jewelry was recovered and identified from the mother of the woman who reported it missing.
Cunningham was found and placed into custody. She told authorities she knew why they were looking for her. According to the arrest report, the woman said she had been stealing from her parents for a least a year and that she has a key to the house and uses it when they leave.
She said she needed the money and has in the past stolen numerous items such as rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. She took most of the items to two pawn shops. She said her desire to steal is a "spending problem" in which she can't stop and that she buys things for the sake of buying things. She said she has stolen before to buy "weed" and to pay bills.
Cunningham faces a felony burglary charge as well as a felony charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. Her mother was insistent that the charges be brought up against her, according to the arrest report. Jail staff was advised that she was suicidal.
