Carson City man faces felony charges; admits to stealing $2000 from JCPenney safe

A 25-year-old JCPenney supervisor was arrested Friday after admitting to store officials that he stole around $2,000 from the store's safe, which was captured on video surveillance.
Travis Lawing of Carson City faces felony grand larceny and embezzlement charges as well as drug possession and paraphernalia charges after Carson City deputies discovered 14 balloons of heroin, a pipe and tinfoil with heroin residue when he was booked into jail. His bail has been set at $25,000.
A store official had detained Lawing for allegedly stealing the money out of the company safe after discovering cash had been missing for the past month in $40 and $500 increments, according to the arrest report.

Because of the theft, the store had put in the surveillance camera inside the safe. It was then that store officials captured Lawing on video walk into the store safe and place money into his shirt pocket and then exit the safe. Store officials confronted the man, who admitted taking approximately $2,000 over the last month because of "financial instability," the arrest report stated.
Lawing wrote a confession statement, admitting to stealing cash from the store safe on approximately 12 different times, according to the arrest report.
