Carson City authorities arrest transient driving a stolen car

A transient faces felony charges of grand larceny and possession of stolen property after he was arrested Saturday night driving in a vehicle reported stolen.

Joshua Lee Ezekiel, 25, was taken into custody by Carson City Sheriff's deputies after being pulled over in the 3900 block of South Carson Street. He is in jail on $25,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, an officer saw a vehicle at about 11:20 p.m. that matched the description of one that been reported stolen.

The officer followed the vehicle along the frontage road at Snyder Avenue and initiated a traffic stop at Silver Sage and Eagle Station, according to the arrest report. Ezekiel continued to drive westbound on Eagle Station, eventually pulling into the rear parking lot of Southgate Mall, in the 3900 block of South Carson Street.

The man was ordered out of the car and detained. The arresting officer read him his Miranda rights and Ezekiel asked what the arrest was about. The officer told him he was driving a stolen vehicle. The man stated that he had given "someone named Jason $20.00" to drive the vehicle. The officer asked for how long and Ezekiel replied two or three days, according to the arrest report.

Officers also found a stolen iPhone in the vehicle, which was reported stolen on Nov. 3 from a vehicle parked at the Galaxy Theater on South Curry Street.

The officer asked Ezekiel about the phone and he stated that he "found it at Bodines," according to the arrest report. When the officer asked where, the man said in the bathroom. The officer asked him how long ago had he found the phone and the man replied about a week ago, the report stated.
