
A 20-year-old Carson City man faces a felony home invasion charge after admitting to breaking down the door of a College Parkway residence, punching a flat screen television and leaving.
Jared Olan Smith was arrested Sept. 30, 7:15 p.m. in the 100 block of North Nevada Street. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of commissioning the crime with property destruction.
According to the arrest report, Smith had prior issues with the victim and, along with several friends, followed the victim to the apartment. Smith then banged on the door several times, before kicking it in and breaking the door frame, the arrest report states.
The victim fled into a bedroom and called 911 and as Smith was leaving, punched the flat screen TV that was on the wall causing a large hole in the screen. He left the apartment with his friends. Officers tracked Smith to a church gym in the 100 block of Nevada Street. He was detained and read his Miranda rights in which he admitted to the entire crime. He was booked without incident. Bail: $27,637.

A 30-year-old inmate at the Carson City Jail faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner causing substantial bodily harm after allegedly wrapping a cup up in a towel and beating a fellow prisoner with it.
Donald Lee Bigpond was booked on the charge Sept. 30 at 8:40 a.m. The incident happened on Sept. 29 at 10:35 a.m. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the fight in progress at the intake pod of the Carson City Jail.
The investigation revealed that Bigpond had allegedly battered the inmate with his fists and a cup wrapped in a towel, the arrest report states. The victim had bruises to his head, blood on the top of his head and blood coming from his nose. The victim was taken to the hospital where he received staples to the head wound. Bail: $30,000.
