Carson City man jailed after text message pot deal discovered

A 20-year-old unemployed Carson City man faces felony drug charges following an arrest on Saturday that involved text messaging a deal to sell $500 worth of marijuana.

Carson City deputies assigned to the Special Enforcement Team learned that the man was offering to sell the marijuana to a subject. Through cell phone text message, the suspect arranged to meet the subject at the 1400 block of Spooner Drive, according to the arrest report.

Officers made contact with the subject and had him exit his truck, and was detained in handcuffs. The suspect's left driver door was open on his truck when he got out. The officer saw what appeared to be a plastic bag of marijuana in plain view under the driver's seat, visible through the side bracket of the seat, where officers didn't have to move anything to see it, according to the arrest report.

The suspect was read his Miranda rights and he agreed to speak with the arresting officer. The suspect stated that he was picking up a friend on Spooner. The suspected admitted he was there to sell marijuana to a subject. The suspect gave deputies permission to look inside the truck and permission to look at the cell phone. The cell phone had numerous text messages from different subjects who were asking to buy pot from him on April 23 and April 24, according to the arrest report.

A deputy removed the suspected marijuana from the truck and saw it appeared to weigh approximately one ounce. The man also had $1,010 in his wallet. The suspect stated he only had a small amount of marijuana left at his residence. He signed a written consent to search the home, located at in the 2880 block of Highway 50. Deputies searched the suspect's home and found approximately four grams of marijuana in the cupboard, according to the arrest report.

The man was booked into the Carson City Jail for felony possession of marijuana more than one ounce, with the baggie weight approximately 1.2 ounces. He was also charged for possession of sales. His bail was set at $17,500.
