A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday after admitting to throwing rocks and punching an ATM machine causing about $13,000 in damage.
Russell James White faces a felony charge, destruction of property. He was arrested at 5:13 p.m. in the 1800 block of Camille.
According to the arrest report, officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank in the 1500 block of East William in reference to destruction of an ATM machine.
The suspect had attempted to withdraw money from a drive-up ATM. The ATM machine retained the card, according to the arrest report. White, upset the card couldn't be retrieved, went into the bank causing a disturbance, the arrest report states.
He then went back to the ATM machine where he threw two rocks at the screen of the machine, and then hit it several times with his fist causing the machine to malfunction, the arrest report states.
The vandalism was witnessed by bank employees, who saw the man flee on a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. The license plate number was established and the information was given to dispatch.
Deputies located White at his home along with the motorcycle. He admitted to throwing the rocks and hitting the machine with his fist out of frustration.
Estimated damage to the ATM: $13,000. White was taken to jail and booked on a charge of destruction of property. Bail: $5,000.
