A Dayton teenager was arrested May 6 for felony grand larceny for allegedly walking out of a South Carson Street department store without paying for seven rings.
According to the arrest report, Natasha Marann Wells, 18, was seen by store security placing seven rings in her purse. They later saw her in another part of the store removing the alarm tag from one of the rings with a pair of scissors. They also witnessed a 15-year-old girl who entered the store with Wells give the suspect another ring, which Wells cut the alarm tag off and gave it back to her. They then saw Wells put the alarm tags into the pocket of a pair of jeans on display.
Store security detained Wells after she exited the building. When the 15-year-old friend saw Wells being detained, she dropped the ring she had inside the store and left with another girl.
After a deputy arrived and read Wells her Miranda rights, she reportedly asked if she would still be able to make her senior prom on May 7. The deputy told her only if she made bail.
Wells told the deputy about taking the rings and removing the alarm tags, and said she walked outside to her vehicle to look at her dress and shoes she was planning to wear for prom.
The rings were valued at $265. Bail was set at $25,000.
