A Washington State man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly aided in the getaway of another man who was spotted stealing items by store security.
When a deputy responded to the 3200 block of Market Street, witnesses pointed them to a red truck moving through the parking lot, where William Gutierrez, 38, was stopped. According to the arrest report, the suspect started yelling profanities at the deputy. After being cuffed, the suspect allegedly made a sudden movement to grab something, and the deputy had to physically restrain him.
Store security said they had received a notice with surveillance photos of a man and two women who were suspected of stealing TVs and DVD from area stores. They said they witnessed people matching those descriptions enter the store, and they watched them put stacks of Blue Ray DVDs into a storage bin, and other items into backpacks. The suspects allegedly figured out they were being watched, abandoned the storage bin and left the store. A witness said he watched the man get into the truck driven by Guitierrez, and saw him drop the man off at a nearby fast food restaurant, where he entered another vehicle and left the area.
The deputy found a backpack inside the truck that contained burglary tools including lock picks, a slim jim, gloves, flashlights and two-way radios. The deputy also found two glass pipes commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. Inside the truck the deputy found 2.9 ounces of marijuana.
Gutierrez was arrested for felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell, felony accessory to burglary, gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $50,000.
