In a tragic incident on Friday, an officer was attacked by a dog while making an arrest, leading to shots being fired and the death of the dog.

Initially we reported the story based on the dispatch log. The official arrest report has more details about the incident.

According to the arrest report, at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, an officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a car containing Kevin Dean Parrish, 26, and Asya Rose Pedone, 30, both Carson City residents. Also in the car were two large dogs identified as being similar in appearance to a pit bull, and two children.

In the report, the officer said he asked the couple to roll up the windows to prevent the dogs from escaping. Parrish was discovered to have a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant and was arrested. Pedone gave the name Terra Smythe. At this point, the officer warned the couple of an improper child safety apparatus in the back seat.

Parrish asked the arresting officer to leave the contents of his wallet with Pedone. During this exchange of items the officer discovered a Social Security Card with the name Asya Rose Pedone on it and ran the name, uncovering a felony warrant and a misdemeanor warrant. Pedone admitted to having used an alias and was arrested.

The report stated that Pedone began to resist arrest despite being advised by both on-site deputies not to do so, and was taken to the ground. At this point one of the dogs escaped from the car windows, which were not rolled up despite the deputy's request that Parrish and Pedone do so. The officer on the ground was attacked by the dog, being struck in the right knee.

The officer continued to hold down Pedone while retrieving his gun and using it to strike the dog. The dog continued to attack, at which point the officer shot, striking the dog.

The dog crossed the street and died. The officer was ordered to medical facilities where he was treated and released.

An eyewitness report stated that the dog did not appear to be a pit bull. An investigation is still pending on this matter.

Pedone was arrested for a felony warrant in her name, a misdemeanor warrant in her name, and a misdemeanor allegation of obstruction of justice. Pedone's bail is set at $7,800 plus administrative fees.
