A Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly embezzling more than $10,000 from Carson Tahoe Veterinary Hospital.
Heather Anne Schenkel, 29, of Carson City, an employee of the hospital for three years, was arrested on seven counts of felony embezzlement. According to the arrest report, business owner Dr. Don Hittenmiller said he suspected the employee was taking money from the business. He showed deputies a printout from Heartland Investigations that showed seven transactions beginning in August where money was transferred from the business to the suspect's Visa card, totaling $10,143. Dr. Hittenmiller told deputies that they would go back and look for other transactions during the suspect's employment with the business.
When deputies went to the employee's residence to discuss the accusations, she told them her Visa card had been lost, but she had not reported it. But the suspect later provided the Visa card from her wallet. Her bail was set at $10,000.
