Thomas Patrick Burtt, 30, was arrested Friday near the intersection of Carson and Telegraph streets for felony assault with a deadly weapon after he attempted to flee from a traffic stop.
According to the arrest report, Burtt was stopped for speeding in his 1999 Jeep Cherokee on William Street in front of Mills Park. He began yelling and cursing at the deputy who stopped him, who suspected he was driving under the influence. He then fled the scene and turned southbound on Carson Street where another patrol car partially blocked his path. As he tried to pull around the car, Burtt allegedly bumped into a deputy. Several deputies then converged and pulled Burit out of the vehicle.
Burtt was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon, gross misdemeanor DUI 2nd offense, misdemeanor speeding, driving with an alcoholic beverage and eluding. Bail was set at $24,846.
