Carson City elder care assistant faces drug charges after pills, meth pipe found

A Carson City caretaker for the elderly faces felony drug charges after authorities found a methamphetamine pipe and an assortment of prescription drugs in a backpack and purse.
Susan Carole Akin, 42, faces a felony charge of possessing prescription drugs without a prescription, a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possessing drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $28,632.
According to the arrest report, a Special Enforcement Team was dispatched to the 400 block of South Saliman Road at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday in reference to neighborhood concerns of drug dealing in the apartment complex.

Deputies made contact at the door of the suspected apartment and were allowed inside the home. The subjects inside are known by the enforcement team for drug activity. The renter of the home gave authorities permission to search the apartment, the arrest report stated.
During the search deputies located a backpack on the living room floor where Akin was sitting. No one in the home would claim ownership of the backpack, the arrest report stated. Inside the pack was a purse and inside the purse was hair and beauty products and a glass meth pipe with residue, according to the report.
Also inside the backpack were vehicle registration and insurance cards that belonged to Akin, who denied ownership of the backpack and meth pipe. She also stated that she works as a personal assistant for an elder care company.
In the front pocket of the backpack officers found a pill bottle full of prescription medication. There wasn't a label on the bottle and the woman denied ownership of of it, the report stated. She did state later, however, that the purse in the backpack was hers. She was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing a prescription drug without a prescription and possession of a controlled substance.
The pills were identified as two Vicodin; two Lodine; one Hydroxizine, one Trazadone, 12 Lorezepam, 17 Amitriptyline, and three lithium, according to the arrest report.
All the men inside the apartment were cited on various drug paraphernalia charges, after wrappers, baggies and pipes were found. And, according to the arrest report, each admitted to having smoked meth that day.
