Carson City authorities arrested a 27-year-old transient Monday in the 1200 block of Old Clear Creek Road. David Elden Bennett faces a felony charge of violation of probation conditions.
According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the area of Spooner Junction after a report of a man standing in the road.
Deputies didn't find the man at the location and drove about one mile west where Bennett, seeing the patrol car, fled down a small ravine and attempted to hide behind a bush. The officer drew his weapon and ordered Bennett to come out. After several orders, the man complied, according to the arrest report.
The man was detained and asked what he was doing. Bennett said that he was drunk and on probation and was hiding because he didn't want to go back to jail. The deputy asked Bennett if he had been on Highway 50 and he said that he had been, offering no reason or excuse for being on the dark highway in the middle of the road.
A preliminary breath test was given in which the man blew a .110, the report states.
