A Carson City man wanted by authorities as a fugitive, buried himself inside the insulation of an attic crawl space in an attempt to hide but was instead found and forced out by a police K9 dog.

Gregg Rowland, 45, an unemployed man who's address listed is 114 S. Division Street, was arrested on Monday by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies. He faces several charges, including failing to register as a convicted sex offender.

Officers responded to the Division Street address at about 10 p.m. to serve a California parole warrant to Rowland. Arriving at the home police could see a man and woman through the front window of the home. When the officer knocked on the door the man got up and ran toward the back of the house, according to the arrest report.

The female also went to the back of the house and then reappeared several minutes later. The woman would later confirm that Rowland was in the upstairs part of the house.

Three other men inside the home were found in their respective bedrooms. All three men said Rowland lives in the front upstairs attic area of the home. A hand search of all the rooms was made by several deputies but he was not found.

A K9 unit was brought in to search the home. Deputy Surratt had announced that he had the police dog several times before entering the home. The dog searched the downstairs portion of the home and then moved to the upstairs attic area, where Rowland had been staying, the arrest report stated.

The dog managed to sniff out Rowland in the attic crawl space. Instead of coming out, the man buried himself into the insulation under the attic crawl space and refused to come out. That is until the dog managed to go after the man in the space, biting him several times.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was treated for dog bites.

During the investigation, it was learned Rowland was a sex offender who had failed to register at his current address. Carson City dispatch confirmed Rowland also had a felony parole and probation warrant out of California with a no-bail hold. He also had a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court, and a warrant out of Reno Township Justice Court.
