Carson City woman jailed on felony child abuse charge; 2-year-old son suffers fractured skull

A 30-year-old Carson City woman faces a felony child abuse charge after her two-year-old son was treated for a fractured skull at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Ivette Olmos-Campos, was arrested Oct. 21, the hospital. She admitted to Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators that she had been abusing her son for the past four months, hitting him with a wood stick and knocking him unconscious.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to Carson Tahoe Hospital in reference to a report that the 2-year-old suffered from a fractured skull.

Olmos-Campos advised hospital staff that her son fell down at her Tiger Drive residence two day prior. She was accompanied by her boyfriend at the hospital and was checked for warrants in which she had an immigration warrant hold for arrest.

Officers observed additional bruising on the boy's arms, legs and back. A Carson Tahoe nurse advised that a CT scan revealed a fracture to the boy's skull and an x-ray showed an older and mostly healed fracture to the boy's arm, the arrest report states.

The woman was arrested for the immigration warrant and was taken to the detective division for an interview along with her boyfriend.

Detectives advised the woman of her Miranda rights and she waived them. She admitted to abusing her son for the past four months, stating she physically abused him around three times a day. She stated that on Oct. 7, the boy bit her daughter so she struck him on the head two times with a wooden stick. She stated that he collapsed and lost consciousness and she believed at the time that her son was dead, the arrest report states.

On Oct. 21 at around 10:30 a.m. the woman stated that her son was acting out and threw food at her. She said she became angry and struck him with the wooden stick again. She said she struck him on the head, arms and thighs. After this abuse, she said the boy lost consciousness, vomited and would lose his balance and fall down randomly, the arrest report states.

After two days of his condition getting worse, she decided to take the boy to the hospital for treatment. She told detectives that she hated the boy, the arrest report states.

She faces charges of felony child abuse causing substantial bodily harm and the immigration warrant. Bail: $20,000 on the abuse charge and no bail hold for the immigration charge.
