A Carson City woman faces multiple charges including child neglect and possession of methamphetamine after officers learned drug dealing was being done out of the garage of her Robinson Street home.
Deborah Ellen Duffy, 24, was arrested Thursday in the 1100 block of East Robinson Street after the Special Enforcement Team of the Carson City Sheriff's Office received information that meth dealing was being done in the garage of the home.
Authorities made contact with the mother of the suspect, who provided consent to allow officers to search the garage. The mother told officers that the her daughter, who has two children ages 3 and 4, had spending a lot of time, lately, in the garage, according to the arrest report.
Officers looked in the garage and found five small clear plastic baggies that contained white residue inside a orange garbage can. One of the baggies contained a small piece of apparent crystal meth. Deputies performed a NIK test on this substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.
Officers continued to look around the garage and found a small black scale and several unused small plastic baggies on a shelf. All items were collected and later booked into evidence, the arrest report stated.
During the investigation, the garage door opened and the suspect, Duffy, pulled into the driveway. She exited the driver's seat of the car and walked into the garage. A deputy read Duffy her Miranda rights and she agreed to speak with authorities, according to the arrest report.
She stated that she didn't know the baggies were in her trash can. She also stated that she does use meth but prefers marijuana. A deputy asked if she had any drugs on her and she stated "yes, I have some weed in my pocket." The woman then pulled out a small baggie of marijuana and handed it to the deputy. She was then placed under arrest.
Officers spoke with the mother of the suspect who stated she is very concerned about the items found in the garage and told officers that the woman's children have access to the garage and sometimes play in there. An officer told the mother that meth and paraphernalia was found in the garage and that the safety of the children was now in question.
Duffy was booked on a felony possession of a controlled substance (meth); two gross misdemeanor counts of abuse or neglect of a child and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. Bail is set at $9,364.
