A Carson City man with two prior convictions of driving under the influence was arrested on suspicion of a third after a citizen advised authorities they had seen an "extremely intoxicated" man get into a car.

David Allen Bennett, 42, whose occupation was listed as a painter with an unknown address, was arrested Thursday in the 3300 block of Highway 50 east. He faces charges of third offense DUI, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and open container in a vehicle. In a preliminary breath test, Bennett blew a .391. The citizen approached a Carson City patrol officer and informed him that they had left the grocery store and saw an "extremely intoxicated" man get into a car in the parking lot, the arrest report stated.

The officer made contact with Bennett and smelled alcohol coming from the car, which was in the reverse position. The officer also observed him conceal an open bottle of alcohol between the two front seats, the report stated. Bennett was instructed to exit the vehicle, and had a difficult timing doing it and maintaining balance.

Bennett would not answer questions and was considered uncooperative by the officer, the report stated. When he was asked if he had been consuming alcohol, the man reportedly replied: "Not enough."

As he was being searched for weapons the arresting officer found a pill bottle with 11 Clonazepam pills inside in which he did not have a prescription for the pills, the report stated. He was taken to the hospital and then to jail. Bennett had prior DUI convictions in 2005 and 2006. Bail was set at $12,687.
