Carson City authorities arrested two men, both with felony convictions, on various felony weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop at 11:45 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 1400 block of Rand. A loaded rifle "ready to fire" tucked in the front seat of the vehicle, knives and methamphetamine were confiscated.
Dareck Gregory Pollock, 38, of Wellington, and Robert Lee Hill, 37, of Ridgecrest were taken into custody by Carson City authorities after a search of the men and vehicle turned up the gun, knives and drugs.
According to the arrest report, officers on patrol observed a 2001 Dodge van traveling westbound on William Street. The vehicle was speeding at 50 mph in a 40 mph zone and did not stop as a traffic light was turning from yellow to red, with a distance of more than 100 feet from the intersection, the report stated.
The vehicle was stopped and officers spoke with the driver, Pollock, and passenger Hill, who identified himself as "Bobby Hill" to officers. Hill appeared to have a nervous disposition and was shaking and breathing heavily, according to the report.
Officers asked Hill if there were any weapons in the vehicle in which he replied no. He did this as he was reaching to the floorboard of the vehicle, the arrest report states. An officer instructed the men to put their hands where they could be seen as a warrants check was conducted, the report states.
Hill was asked to speak if he had any weapons on him. He said he had a knife and began to reach in his pocket for it. The arresting officer instructed him not to reach for anything and a subsequent pat down was done for weapons. Recovered in the pat down was a knife, three meth pipes and 8 grams of methamphetamine. Hill was read his rights and in which he told officers that he brought the meth into Nevada from California, the arrest report states.
Meanwhile, Pollock agreed to a search of the vehicle. During the search officers found a stack of three throwing knives within the driver's reach on the dashboard of the vehicle and a Winchester .22 rifle laying between the two front seats. The weapon, in reach of both the driver and passenger, was equipped with a scope, had a cartridge chambered and was "ready to fire," according to the arrest report.
Officers asked if Pollock was a convicted felon. The man replied he was and it was confirmed through a records check.
