A 32 year-old Dayton woman was arrested Friday afternoon at 3:16 p.m. in the area of South Curry and West Tenth street for a pair of gross misdemeanors and a traffic misdemeanor, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Gross misdemeanor offenses included child endangerment and second offense driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol.

According to the arrest report, Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene of a reported fight and vehicle crash. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver of a silver sedan, which had reportedly left the scene of a fight before crashing.

The female suspect driver was identified and explained she failed to stop at a stop sign because she was upset over an argument she had with her boyfriend, the report said. Her failure to stop at the stop sign caused a collision with another vehicle, she reported.

Her six year-old child was in the back seat of the suspect's sedan at the time of the collision.

The suspect's eyes were observed to be red and watery. She smelled strongly of alcohol. When asked if she had been drinking alcohol, the suspect admitted to consuming half of a 24-ounce Locos alcoholic beverage, the report said.

She voluntarily consented to field sobriety testing (FST) which showed signs of impairment. The suspect also voluntarily submitted to preliminary breath testing (PBT) which returned a value of .165 percent breath alcohol content.

At that point, the suspect was handcuffed for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,500.

The security officer on site reported having observed a male suspect select multiple items from a store shelf, place them in a shopping cart and attempt to exit the business through a side door, passing all checkout points with merchandise he made no effort to pay for.

Security made contact with Henderson, who became non-compliant, abandoned the shopping cart and walked off, leaving in a Saturn vehicle.

He was later located at another business, this one along South Carson Street, where he was detained after a second burglary call, the report said.

A Sheriff's deputy in the area observed a subject who partially matched Henderson's description walking quickly away from the South Carson Street business. He was stopped and questioned by law enforcement, appearing nervous and uncomfortable.

Henderson was detained on suspicion of having committed a crime based on his behaviors toward the officer.

A loss prevention staff member at the South Carson Street business arrived at the deputy's location and identified Henderson as the suspect who had walked out of the business with knives he did not pay for, the report said.

Upon leaving the store, staff observed Henderson running across Stewart Street and into bushes. Deputies searched that area, locating plastic bins in which were found a jacket and beanie cap that had matched Henderson's description from staff at the Market Street business.

Deputies also recovered 12 knives inside the bins still in their original packaging. Total value of the stolen items was more than $271, the report said.

A suspect vehicle that Henderson was believed to be riding in had been stopped by another Sheriff's deputy. As the arresting deputy approached the stop in his patrol vehicle, with Henderson in the back, the suspect suddenly stated that he did not want his friends to get in trouble for what he did.

Henderson admitted to committing the larceny offense, the report said, and finally identified himself to law enforcement.

The driver of the stopped vehicle was identified and reported to deputies there was a backpack inside belonging to Henderson. He handed the backpack to officers, who searched it and found a small black case containing suspected methamphetamine, a pipe and snorting straws.

The substance tested presumptive positive for meth, the report said.

Henderson admitted the backpack belonged to him, and that the black case did contain meth.

A records check through dispatch showed a previous burglary conviction for Henderson as well as the outstanding arrest warrant. He was transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $10,000.

— A 39 year-old transient woman was arrested Friday morning at 7:41 a.m. in the area of South Carson and Seventh streets on two counts misdemeanor trespassing, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy responded to a downtown business, a staff member at which reported a female suspect was inside yelling and screaming at staff. She had also gotten into the face of one staff member, the witness reported.

Four staff members were required to get the suspect to leave the premises, staff witness reported, and she had already been trespassing earlier the evening.

The suspect had since left the premises, the report said, but was located further downtown Carson Street at another business, which had also called in an unwanted subject report on her.

Law enforcement located the suspect, who was observed walking northbound on Carson Street away from deputies. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect walked out into the middle of Carson Street in an attempt to avoid law enforcement.

She did not watch for traffic when she stepped out onto the street, the report said, and only avoided being struck because law enforcement switched on emergency vehicle lights to stop traffic.

The suspect was then detained, handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $150.

Three from Dayton charged in year-long NDOW bear poaching investigation

Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens recently wrapped up a complicated year-long investigation into the poaching of a large male black bear in the spring of 2017, resulting in formal charges being filed in Dayton Justice Court March 28 by the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office.

After being alerted to the possible unlawful killing of a large black bear in the Pine Nut Mountains near Dayton in February of 2017, game wardens began what was to become a nearly year-long investigation into the matter.

During the investigation wardens uncovered information which suggested that Daniel Rubio, Eliseo Rubio Sr. and Eliseo Rubio Jr. of Dayton, may have been involved with the unlawful shooting and killing of the black bear, as well as unlawfully killing and possessing a mule deer in addition to other wildlife crimes.

Enough evidence was produced to charge the suspects with felony unlawful killing of a big game animal as well as gross misdemeanor unlawful possession of a big game animal. The court date is May 21 in Dayton Justice Court.

“This was a lengthy and complicated investigation in which patience, persistence, and confidentiality were crucial to the eventual success,” said Nevada Department of Wildlife Chief Game Warden Tyler Turnipseed. “Key evidence in this case minimized our reliance on additional information from the public or offering rewards while investigating this case.”

Based on the unique circumstances of all poaching cases, game wardens investigate each case differently. In some investigations, NDOW solicits information from the public and even offers reward money for tips that lead to solving the case. In this investigation, the suspects were identified from the beginning. NDOW law enforcement believes their relatively quiet persistence in this case worked to their advantage.

“Not having media exposure during the investigation helped protect key pieces of evidence,” said NDOW Game Warden Jake Kreamer. “Keeping things confidential allowed us the time to conduct a very thorough investigation and put together what we believe is a solid case.”

“We want to make it very clear that these individuals are not hunters. They did not have big game tags, did not purchase hunting licenses, and are not hunters. People like this are definitely not sportsmen," said Turnipseed.

Poaching is a global issue, and the impacts of a case like this go beyond Nevada. NDOW is extremely grateful Nevada wardens were able to bring these poachers to justice and highlight the tragic loss of wildlife that belongs to us all.

Witnesses to any wildlife-related crime are encouraged to report information to Operation Game Thief at (800) 992-3030.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, conserves, manages and restores wildlife and its habitat for the aesthetic, scientific, educational, recreational, and economic benefits to citizens of Nevada and the United States, and to promote the safety of persons using vessels on the waters of Nevada. A 39 year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night at 9:34 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street on multiple felony drug offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Cesar Armando Alvarado was booked into the Carson City Jail for possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to sell.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy observed a a white sedan fail to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection of West Winnie Lane and Russett Way. A records check of the vehicle's registration returned as expired.

A traffic stop was conducted along North Carson Street, and contact was made with the driver and a passenger inside the vehicle. The passenger was recognized as Alvarado from previous drug-related law enforcement contacts, the report said, and a K-9 unit was called to assist on the stop.

Both subjects were instructed to exit the vehicle, the report said, and they both consented to a search of their persons. Two plastic baggies containing a white crystallized substance presumed to be methamphetamine were found on Alvarado, who was placed in custody at that point in handcuffs.

A positive alert was noted during the K9 exterior sniff, and a subsequent interior search search of the vehicle found an additional baggie of presumed meth under the front passenger seat along with an unused glass meth pipe. Three baggies in total for recovered during the search of Alvarado and the vehicle, each containg around one gram apiece. A total of about 3.5 grams of presumed meth were seized from the stop.

The records check through Carson City Dispatch showed Alvarado had no drugs or paraphernalia conditions through the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS). He also had confirmed misdemeanor failure to appear traffic bench warrant issued out of the Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $5,000.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, a 41 year-old Carson City man, was also arrested on multiple misdemeanor offenses, including being ex-felon who had failed to register, as well as the expired vehicle registration and stop sign violation that resulted in the traffic stop.

— Two men were arrested were arrested early Saturday morning at 12:03 a.m. in the 3300 block of U.S. Highway 50 East on felony heroin possession and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Kyle Christopher Powell, 25, of Gold Hill, NV, and 27 year-old transient Miles Christopher Beals were taken into custody after a Sheriff's deputy observed them sitting in a store parking lot inside a small pickup for several minutes.

The deputy activated his emergency lights to make a stop, the report said, and then walked up to the side of the pickup to make contact with its occupants. Both men identified themselves and each denied any drug activity.

A records check on Powell confirmed three active bench warrants for misdemeanor failure to appear on traffic citations issued from three separate jurisdictions: Reno Township Justice Court out of Washoe County, East Fork Township Justice Court out of Douglas County, and Carson City Justice Court.

Law enforcement instructed Powell to exit the vehicle, and as he did so, a plastic pen known as a "tooter straw" fell out of his lap, the report said. The straw contained brown residue on it.

In response, Powell said, "I forgot about that. I've been clean for almost a year." He was placed in handcuffs.

A K9 unit assisted in the stop and the exterior sniff resulted in a positive alert. A search of the vehicle recovered 2.9 grams of suspected heroin, including residue where both the driver and passenger were seated.

Beals was also handcuffed, and both men transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,500 each.

— Two transient women were arrested Friday afternoon at 5:32 p.m. in the area of Sonoma Park on felony methamphetamine possession and multiple misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Amberle Jeanne Gaddis, 27, and 20 year-old Mariah Noel Zepeda was taken into custody after a Sheriff's deputy noted Zepeda sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle at the park for several minutes and discarding cigarette butts out of the window, the arrest report said.

Upon making contact with Zepeda, law enforcement questioned her behavior. She said she was waiting for her friend, Gaddis, who was playing with her five year-old child at the park.

Zepeda, identified by ID card, had discarded around 27 cigarette butts onto the pavement of the street beneath her vehicle, which also smelled strongly of burnt marijuana, the report said.

A marijuana bong was observed at Zepeda's feet.

Gaddis made her way over to the vehicle at about this time and was questioned by the deputy. She reported that her husband had a valid driver's license and had driven the two women and child to the park.

The deputy concluded Gaddis was lying, because her spouse was currently incarcerated at the Carson City Jail. Upon being confronted about the information, Gaddis then said a different person by her husband's name had driven them to the park, the report said.

Visible from outside of the vehicle was a large amount of personal property, and Gaddis stated they were between hotels, having previously traveled from Sacramento to Carson City.

Due to the inconsistent information and fabrications, both women were instructed to sit on the curb.

A K9 officer was utilized to perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle and a positive alert was noted on both the driver and passenger sides, the report said.

A subsequent vehicle search located the marijuana bong where Zepeda had been seated along with marijuana, a grinder and three other pipes in her purse. Five plastic baggies containing trace amounts of methamphetamine were also found inside of a backpack in the vehicle's trunk.

Further questioning of Gaddis revealed her child did not have a home and they were living out of the vehicle. The child also had never been to formal school, Gaddis told deputies in the report.

When asked why the child had never been in school, Gaddis replied with the child seated in front of her, "because he is a pain in the ass."

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) was contacted and a social worker responded to the scene, taking custody of the child.

Gaddis had the charge of child neglect and endangerment added to her arrest, while Zepeda was also charged with misdemeanor littering and drug paraphernalia possession. The two women were handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,500 each.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly emptied packaged baggies of methamphetamine into his coffee cup in order to conceal evidence.

John Foster Jr., 55, of Las Vegas, was arrested at 11:47 a.m. in the area of Robinson and Plaza streets. He faces charges of felony possession with intent to sell Schedule 1-2 controlled substances, possession of a controlled substance, (meth), gross misdemeanor destroying and concealing evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a SET deputy was on patrol in the area and observed a black 2004 Mercedes turn onto southbound Carson Street from a motel in the 1700 block of North Carson Street. The motel is known as a high crime area and for heavy drug activity, according to the report.

The driver of the vehicle did not signal their turn from the private drive and turned directly into northbound traffic, causing another vehicle to slow down in that lane. The deputy stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Plaza and Robinson streets and spoke with the female driver, Foster Jr., who was the front passenger, and a rear passenger.

A second deputy responded to the scene, while the arresting deputy spoke with the driver at his patrol vehicle.

While the arresting deputy spoke with the driver, the second deputy removed Foster Jr., from the vehicle and detained him after having observed him tearing plastic baggies and attempting to discard contents in the vehicle. Officers examined the area discovered there was methamphetamine mashed into the seat cushions and poured into a coffee cup in the center console, the report states.

A drug detection canine conducted an exterior free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of a drug odor.

Located was a white plastic baggie on the passenger floorboard that contained around 10 grams of marijuana and then around 1.5 grams of marijuana in a separate baggie.

Also located was a digital scale in the man’s suitcase in the trunk of the vehicle. The weighing surface had green and white residue on it, the report states.

Based on the presence of a scale, several baggies and the weight of the drugs in those baggies, it appeared the drugs were packaged for sale, according to the report. All items were seized and booked into evidence.

The arresting deputy spoke with Foster Jr. and informed him of his Miranda rights in which he stated he understood and agreed to speak about the items in the vehicle.

The deputy asked the man about the methamphetamine and baggies he was caught tearing. The man said he saw deputies coming and wanted to get rid of the drugs and admitted to pouring the methamphetamine in his coffee, the arrest report states. He was taken into custody and the two others in the vehicle were released. Bail: $13,637.
