A Reno man faces multiple charges including a felony warrant for writing bad checks and possessing methamphetamine, after being stopped late Tuesday night.
Launie Merritt, 29, was stopped by Carson City deputies after his red Toyota came back with suspended registration. According to the arrest report, Merritt gave deputies his brother's name and date of birth when questioned and in a subsequent search of his wallet, he was in possession of a prison identification card with his correct name and date of birth.
Carson City dispatchers checked the suspect for warrants and deputies were advised a confirmed warrant for check fraud out of Churchill County. He was taken into custody for the warrant.
Dispatch also advised deputies that Parole and Probation sought arrest of Merritt if he tested positive for methamphetamine. During transport to jail, the man's vehicle was was searched by a K-9 unit. Inside the car, under the right side of the passenger seat was methamphetamine and two injection needles, according to the arrest report.
Merritt was charged with parole violation, use of false identification to avoid prosecution, the Churchill County bad check warrant, possession of controlled substance and two counts of possession of hypodermic needles. His bail was set at 24,643.
