Two were arrested Sunday and face multiple felony charges including burglary after allegedly stealing a purse with a gun inside from underneath the counter of a Carson City business and then using credit cards to go on a buying spree.
Samantha Ann Henry, of Dresslerville, and David Elden Bennett of Markleeville, both 27, are being held on $105,200 bail each. The pair were discovered attempting to purchase items with one of the stolen credit cards at the Walmart store on Market Street.
According to the arrest report, Carson City sheriff's patrol officers were dispatched Saturday to the 3100 block of Highway 50 East, Bobby Page Cleaners, for a report of a stolen purse containing a firearm.
Officers met with the victim who advised that during her work shift her purse containing several credit cards was stolen from behind the counter. The victim provided suspect identifications and a vehicle description. The firearm was listed in NCIC as stolen.
At around 10 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the area of 101 Conestoga in Carson City for a report of property found. Officers met with the finder of the property and collected a purse that belonged to the victim. During the followup investigation with the victim, officers learned that several of the credit cards had been used in the Carson City and Douglas County area since the report of the theft, according to the arrest report.
Officers responded to 3200 Market Street and spoke with loss prevention who advised the suspects, Henry and Bennett, were in the store. The pair were contacted in the automotive section after attempting to purchase items with one the credit cards. Henry and Bennett were detained and then, subsequently, positively identified by the victim. After the pair were identified, officers collected the evidence and property that belonged to the victim.
Henry and Bennett were cuffed and taken to jail and booked without incident. Each face the following felony charges: burglary, credit card fraud, fraud, obtaining money under false pretenses, possession of stolen property, theft, grand larceny of a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of defrauding a taxi. Bail is $105,200 each.
