A 23-year-old man was arrested Friday for felony suspicion of parole and probation violation and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, basic speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Caleb Hartman of North Las Vegas was taken into custody at 6:40 p.m. in the area of South Carson and Colorado streets. According to the arrest report, a deputy on patrol in the area observed a silver sedan with California plates in front of the deputy. When the light turned green the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. The deputy paced the vehicle, with a radar confirming 70 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.

The officer spoke with Hartman and could smell an odor of marijuana. The man said he was sorry he was going 70 mph but that he had to pee really bad, the arrest report states. The officer requested a K9 unit. The officer conducted a records check and dispatch informed him he was a Priority 5 through parole and probation. He was detained. The K9 arrived and alerted to the vehicle. The man told officers he had an eighth of an ounce of marijuana in the car. He’s on a 'no bail' hold in lieu of a hearing for the felony probation violation. Bail amount is $2,006.
