A Carson City man was arrested and faces multiple felony charges after he admitted to stealing and pawning an iPad and a prized WWF belt from a man with multiple sclerosis whom he lived with.
David J. Catalani, 32, is being held on $55,000 bail. He told authorities he pawned the victim's possessions in order to pay for domestic violence classes.
According to the arrest report, officers were notified by a Carson High School official about a student being a victim of grand larceny. The student, whose disability impairs his ability to walk and speak, told authorities that his mother's boyfriend, Catalani, had taken several things from his room and possibly pawned them.
On Feb. 11, when the victim and his aide returned from school to the victim's home, his iPad, camera and a collector WWF belt were missing. The victim's younger brother also had said that his iPod, a Wii and a guitar were also missing. Meanwhile, a friend of the family, who faces felony elderly exploitation charges and is in jail, told authorities that Catalani left with the missing items headed to a pawn shop earlier in the day, according to the arrest report.
The report further stated that the victim was not allowed by his mother to report the items missing from his room, and told his aide not to allow him to call or attempt to help the victim report the items stolen from him or his brother, according to the arrest report.
The victim explained to authorities that about two weeks ago, $15 went missing from his wallet and he believed it was Catalani who took the money, according to the arrest report. He told authorities that Catalani had earlier asked him for the money in his wallet and he told him he couldn't have it. The money went missing later, according to the arrest report.
On Feb. 11, the aide began her shift at the victim's home. When she went into his bedroom, she saw that his iPad was on his lap. When they returned to the home later, the iPad, valued at $600, and a camera were missing. The aide was informed by the victim that his WWF collector belt, personally given to him by an actual wrestler and valued at $2,000, was also missing from the home.
Catalani was contacted by authorities, who had a previous warrant for his arrest. As he was arrested, he was asked whether he wanted to speak about the missing items. He told officers, "yeah, I will tell you anything," according to the arrest report.
Catalani was asked about the stolen property and whether he pawned it. He said he did pawn the property because he was trying to pay for the domestic violence counseling classes. He also said he didn't think it was stealing because everyone lived in the same house, according to the arrest report.
Authorities made contact with the pawn shop Catalani said he pawned the items and a hold was placed on them. He faces felony charges of exploitation of a vulnerable person and two counts of grand larceny.

A Carson City man faces multiple gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges after being stopped and then confessing to making a temporary registration placard for a van he said he recently purchased.
Tyrell Liddicoat, 23, was arrested Thursday at North Carson Street and College Parkway after being stopped. He told officers that he didn't have his driver's license with him but presented a passport instead, and that he didn't have insurance and that he had bought the Dodge van recently from friend.
Officers observed the VIN number on the van and the number on the placard didn't match and that the year was on the vehicle was different. Liddicoat later told authorities that he made the placard to buy some time.
The man was asked to step outside the car and was asked if he had weapons on him. The man said he had pepper spray in his pocket. As the man opened the door officers observed a billy club on the floor and a black scale on the seat. Liddicoat said he had the billy club for protection because he had been jumped recently. He was asked about the drug scale which he said wasn't his.
During the search of the vehicle, another temporary placard was found in the glove box. The VIN number and the year/model of the vehicle had been rubbed off the placard, according to the arrest report. The placard was issued to a Isuzu Rodeo, in which the owner had reported stolen a few days after he bought it. Also in the glovebox was a blank temporary placard made out of premium photo paper. Liddicoat told authorities the blank temporary placard belonged to a friend, whom he would not identify, and that he used it to make fake temporary placards.
All the fake placards were later photographed and booked into evidence. Liddicoat faces charges of gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon and falsifying a motor vehicle registration. He faces misdemeanor charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended driver's license, providing fictitious registration and no proof of insurance. Bail was set at $7,603.

According to the arrest report, witnesses stated that a white Dodge Durango had left the scene of an accident after it slid into the intersection, colliding with a vehicle. Witnesses said the driver then sped away from the accident.
As authorities were doing the investigation, a man arrived at the scene and told authorities that his roommate had just driven home and informed him he had wrecked his Dodge Durango. The man told authorities where the vehicle was and that the roommate had left the home on foot with his dog. The Dodge Durango had front end body damage that was consistent with the accident, according to the arrest report.
Authorities responded to the suspect's last known address, where the man attempted to flee by jumping a wooden fence and then going through a hole in a chain link fence, according to the arrest report. Officers were able to identify the man in the pursuit because he had a goatee. Authorities followed the man's footprints to a grocery store in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East. Officers went inside the grocery store and found the man standing in the self service line. He was arrested and faces misdemeanor charges of hit and run causing property damage, no valid driver's license, driving too fast for conditions and obstructing. Bail was set at $1,353.
