A 53-year-old man was arrested Thursday in the 100 block of East Long Street after he allegedly attempted to burglarize two cars in the parking lot of the Nevada Parole and Probation office, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Arrested was Robert Allen Stewart on two felony charges of attempted vehicle burglary and a gross misdemeanor charge of possession of burglary tools. He's being held on $12,500 bail.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded at 11:51 a.m. to the Nevada DPS Parole and Probation office at 119 East Long Street regarding a suspect detained for auto burglary.

Two officers with the division advised they observed Stewart trying to pick the lock of one of the officer's work cars in the rear parking lot. As Stewart attempted to tamper with the vehicle's lock, he was contacted by Parole and Probation officers Clint Hall and Kim Vine who detained him, the arrest report states.

Officer Vine located a long metal instrument, known as a "pick" in Stewart's right rear pants pocket. According to officer Hall, Stewart also attempted to use the pick on officer Vine's personal vehicle parked next to the state work vehicle.

Once contacted, a Carson City deputy mirandized Stewart and questioned him about the alleged attempted vehicle burglary. Stewart, who was intoxicated, said he was "just looking for things" but would not elaborate, the arrest report states. He was booked on two felony counts of attempted auto burglary and possession of burglary tools.
