Two men and a woman were arrested Thursday night at two locations on felony drug and related charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Margaret Genevieve Schmitt, 51, was arrested for suspicion of felony drug trafficking (4 to 14 grams), possession of a firearm by an ex-felon, maintaining a drug house and possession of a controlled substance over an ounce. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Daniel David Johnson, 55, faces felony charges of maintaining a drug house and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm. He also faces misdemeanor charges of drug paraphernalia, not using a turn signal and driving without a seatbelt.

Also arrested was Anthony Manuel Fernand, 28, for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a deputy on patrol observed the driver of a vehicle not wearing a seat belt and make multiple lane changes without signaling in front of other vehicles on Saliman Road.

Two were inside the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. The deputy conducted a records check and learned Johnson was a convicted felony for drug trafficking and had a lengthy criminal history for drug related offenses, the arrest report states.

A canine did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. The deputy asked Johnson, the driver if there were drugs in the vehicle. He said no, the arrest report states. A search was conducted. Deputies found 1.1 grams of methamphetamine, a drug spoon, and several boxes of ammunition for a 7.62 firearm, and a 5.56 firearm, the arrest report states.

Deputies interviewed the passenger and read him his rights. Because the drug paraphernalia was found under the passenger seat and both the driver and passenger had dominion and control of the methamphetamine in the center console, both men were arrested.

Meanwhile, with the information Johnson provided regarding his firearms and the location, the deputy applied for a search warrant of the RV on Pinion Hills Drive. The search warrant was approved by a Carson City judge at 10:30 p.m.

Suspecting more drugs or firearms in a vehicle that belonged to Schmitt, deputies called the judge and asked for an amended search warrant to include the vehicle. The search warrant was approved at 12:09 a.m. Inside, deputies found 6.5 grams of methamphetamine, more ammunition, and miscellaneous firearm parts. Bail for Schmitt: $63,637. A 31-year-old man arrested Friday morning faces several charges including felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and second offense DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Daniel Ray Drinkle of Sun Valley was arrested at 8:10 a.m. in the area of Robinson and Saliman streets. He also faces misdemeanor charges of suspicion of DUI second offense, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, failure to stop at a stop sign, open container, failure to maintain a traffic lane and failure to use turn signals.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop after the vehicle the man was driving was reported earlier as a possible DUI. The deputy followed the vehicle and observed the driver failing to maintain a lane, crossing over the white line twice and failing to stop at a stop sign.

The deputy observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man. He had red watery eyes and slurred speech. In the passenger’s seat deputies located a case of Blue Moon beer along with two bottles on the driver side floor board and a bottle on the passenger side floor board.

The deputy asked the man if he had drinking. The man replied “yes, all night,” the arrest report states. The man exited the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. The deputy asked if he would be willing to submit to field sobriety tests. The man told the deputy “no I am already guilty,” the report states.

He was arrested. Prior to transport to jail the man advised he had two shotguns and a .22 caliber rifle in his trunk. A criminal history report was requested that indicated he was arrested for DUI in December 2015 and felony domestic battery with strangulation in April 2016. He provided a preliminary breath test of .265. Bail: $24,237.

According to the arrest report, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle after running the registration and learning that it was suspended.

When the deputy approached the driver, he rolled down the window a couple of inches. The officer could smell an odor of marijuana and alcohol coming from inside. The deputy told the man to roll the window down all the way. The suspect told the officer he wasn’t going to and asked the officer why he was stopped.

The deputy told the man he was stopped for the registration violation. The man stared at the deputy when he told him to hand over the keys to the car. The man then rolled up his window, turned the car on and drove away at a high rate of speed. The deputy followed the vehicle, which was driving without his lights on and threw stop signs, ultimately stopping at Ivy and Mountain streets.

Once the driver stopped he became compliant with commands. He explained that he fled because he knew he didn’t have a license, registration or insurance and that he “freaked” out. An attempted armed robbery that happened early Sunday morning on Hot Springs Road ended with the arrests of adults and juveniles, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office sergeant said.

At around 12:45 a.m. dispatch received a 911 call from the victim of an attempted armed robbery who said two with masks and weapons briefly held him at gun point demanding cash and valuables, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Nate Brehm.

As the victim attempted to retrieve valuables on his person, the suspects may have gotten spooked after seeing a car drive up to them. The suspects quickly got into a red sedan and took off. The victim was not hurt and called 911 dispatch, which relayed a message to sheriff’s deputies, said Brehm.

Deputies coming from multiple directions attempted to locate the vehicle. A deputy spotted a red sedan on North Carson Street occupied by several people within around 5 to 7 minutes of the 911 call. A traffic stop was made where five subjects, adults and juveniles, were detained. Deputies located weapons, bandanas and a mask. They were subsequently arrested for attempted robbery.

The matter remains under investigation. The names of the adult suspects and the charges will be released Monday.
